Revlon Colorstay Buttercup

Today I have Revlon Buttercup From the Colorstay line. Buttercup is a light butter yellow, I love this shade but the formula on this one is horrible. It was thick, streaky and wouldn't even out own its own but at the same time pooled at my cuticles requiring me to do clean up, which is rare. This polish staggers my imagination.
Picture is three coats, it could have used a fourth to even it out more but after the third coat I was so frustrated that I wasn't willing. Needless to say I took this one off immediately. I might try adding thinner later on to see if it can be helped.

What polish has had the worst formula you have tried?

  1. Oh, it's such a pretty color--so sad about the formula. Fingers crossed that thinning helps!

    1. Ughh, I love the color, thanks, hopefully it will thin out.

  2. L'Oreal Tweet Me. Another yellow. Gah! SEVEN coats and still streaky - so not worth it.

  3. Revlon Colorstay Provence is the worst formula, for me, its a pastel too and I think pastels are just thick and tacky like you are saying, and they don't even themselves out. I had the same experience. They take patience to apply nicely. I have to say though I haven't worn a yellow polish, yellow kind of scares me. It looks great on you though!

    1. Ha, I almost got that one as well, so glad I didn't now. I used to be scared of yellow but I have to say it is one of my favorites now, try them!

  4. That's such a nice yellow; sorry to hear about its issues! Revlons for me tend to be a hit or miss, formula-wise. Two polishes come to mind when it came to application issues: TuffScent Beautiful which refused to level and was goopy and hard to control on the nail and OPI Austin-tacious Turquoise which not only pooled around my cuticles and was thin and streaky and a true PITA to work with but stained my fingers, cuticles and nails green! >.<

    1. I had such high hopes for it! Yes, OPI ATT was a PITA, fails, lol.

  5. I am crazy for the new Colorstay line because they really last on me and biggie for me - the cream formulas - my nails don't thin and peal from!!! I also found this one shade hard to deal with. love the shade. Start early with it in the day so that you let each layer dry totally. I found that helped. I was rushing it like I do all my polishes and this one is not one you can double load the brush (which this brush on this color wants to do already). I thought about using some thinner as I love the color so much and it's rare I find a yellow I can wear. Honest, it's just a few shades in this new line that do this. Try the teal shade (forgetting what it's called - it's more blue that teal) - I had no trouble applying it and wore it for 8 days with only one new application of the color - and I did put a fresh clear topper on it ever other day. Watch for these on sale...they are pricy otherwise. But often they are on buy one get the next 50% off with a in store coupon (at Walgreens) for $1 off each bottle on top of that already discount.

    1. There have been hits and misses for me in this line. Unfortunately, I just don't have time to let it dry all day long in between coats and I have a few other yellows that I love that don't have this issue. We don't have a Walgreens or other drugstores here so they never go on sale but we do occasionally get the coupons.

  6. Really pretty. I'm looking for a yellow like this actually. Shame about the formula.

    1. Thanks, yeah, I am looking to try China Glaze Lemon Fizz soon. Hoping it is better!

  7. I love Revlon, but the formula of this polish is what inspired me to create my own line of pastels. I needed pastels that applied well.

    1. That's awesome, creating your own polishes! I love pastels, I think they formulas are getting better but not all are equal, lol.

  8. I have Nails Inc Spitalfields in a very similar colour and the formula of that one is awful too. I have some supermarket (Asda) brand pastel cremes and they are really thick and gloopy too.
